About Ayurvedic Healing Therapy
Ayurveda is a system of natural healing which is over 5,000 years old and rooted in the ancient Vedic culture of India. Literally meaning “the science of life” (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge), Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga. Together yoga and Ayurveda work to help a person achieve health, happiness and liberation through the balanced and dynamic integration of body, mind, and spirit with the changing cycles of nature. The goal of Ayurveda is to maintain health by preventing disease, and eliminating the root cause of dis-ease.
What differentiates us
In addition to Sheetal's private practice, her focus is on writing about Ayurveda and teaching to contribute to the body of Ayurvedic wisdom in a modern context. Sheetal comes form a long line of Indian women who carry this 5,000 year-old wisdom.
How we were trained
Sheetal Narsai has been involved in the field of health and wellness for the past decade. She began studying health sciences at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. While earning her B.S. degree in Kinesiology, and B.A. in Sports management and Communication, she excelled in water polo as an NCAA All-American Athlete as co-captain of the team. She entered the health and wellness field after completing her studies as a fitness trainer with nutritional support.
Her interests in wellness later took a turn towards the eastern practices of Yoga and Ayurveda when she became a certified Kundalini Yoga instructor. She then entered the American University of Complementary Medicine, in Beverly Hills, California. During her studies she satisfied her internship requirements in the OBGYN department at SDM Ayurveda College in Udupi India, before completing her Doctorate in Ayurvedic Medicine. She continues to serve the American University of Complementary Medicine as Adjunct Professor where she has her own private practice.
Why we love what we do
My mother and grandmother, like many Indian mothers, have unknowingly kept the Ayurvedic traditions of cooking and healing alive. The rich science of Ayurveda interwove with the culture and tradition of India thousands of years ago. My awakening to the deep, mystical tradition of yoga led me to the study of Ayurveda. I am re-discovering this ancient science of life and loving every moment!
