About James Perez
My business centers around my clients. As a fitness client of mine, your workout is based solely on what you desire. After 24 years in the industry, I have use all the equipment in the gym. During the workouts, I will properly instruct you on the correct usage of free weights, TRX machine, kettle bells and everything else in between. The work is obviously done by you, but I can show you all the in's and out's so that you are not wasting your precious money and time. I prefer to establish a client/trainer relationship where we train on the outset for 6-8 weeks 3 times a week, and then begin to wean off until obviously we both feel comfortable. We will do this toll you are ready to go out there and do it by yourself. Fitness is fun, but it is only effective if you know what you are doing. It can not be masted by anyone who hasn't studied Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology. I have been to and/or led more seminars (on exercise) than Tony Robbins (on self improvement) possibly know what is effective for them based on their current fitness level, as everyone's body is different. The goal of exercise is empowerment not injury causation.
What differentiates us
The number one thing that separates me from every other single trainer is that I care about my clients, which is why my price is what it is. My education, hands on knowledge, and the pure joy of watching someone's body change right in front of my eyes, is truly self rewarding. Now these television shows, (I worked on one, as a program design specialist) are absolutely the wrong way to exercise, but we will talk about that when we first meet. Also I've been doing this for a living not a side job, like some of these chain gyms, who hire kids to play with a person's body. Caveat emptor-buyer beware. I believe that what separates me from everyone else is that I have always been into fitness since I had to rebuild my body, which had slipped from a 175lb national collegiate athlete to a 99 lb individual in a matter of months. After learning how to do that, I enjoyed it so much I thought I just might be able to help others.
How we were trained
I received my education from the University of San Francisco, where I started as a center fielder, in baseball in fall of 79'. After my freshman year I was originally diagnosed with terminal, metastatic cancer of the intestines in 1980 and lost the scholarship, which at the time was the last thing on my mind. I obviously took off several years to beat that, and I did just that. I returned to school in 92', finished the undergrad in 94' in Exercise Physiology. The master's in Kinesiology in 1996 followed as I finished a semester early, with a great deal of financial aid from the Jesuits. When you walk into any of these chain gyms you will see the trainers there are mostly young kids, who think they were born with the knowledge of how to exercise properly, sadly 99% of all males feel and think the same which is why the people of our great country are so overtly obese. The gyms love it, because people join up, go to the gym probably for 4-6 weeks see very little change and then gradually begin to accept their fate that their body will never change. Untrue! I wrote this long for a reason. If you have read to this part, then I know you are serious, and I only deal with serious clients. So let's accept the fact that 95% of the people in the gym, have no idea what they are doing, and that includes the trainers. Believe me, I've worked for all the chains from 24 hr fitness to Equinox to Crunch and their only reason for opening up their sweat mills is for money, bottom line. Their philosophy is quantity not quality, especially in regard to personal training. The first thing they do is send them to a sales seminar to learn how to sell, not prescribe exercise. Believe this or not, I am the exact opposite. My formal training and certifications are from the American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and specialist in Post Rehabilitation from neuromuscular injuries. Basically, I instruct the client on how to bridge the gap from the physical therapist table into the gym. Sorry for being so long written, but fitness is my life and I take it inordinately serious.
Why we love what we do
I love to do what I do because it has saved my life and made me healthy and rich in friendships and long lasting relationships. You can call, Skype, or text any question related to fitness for as long as you desire. I went to school not knowing what to major in and the powers at be pushed me in this direction. My father, once told me to find a job you love and you never have to work. So for me it is not considered work. I help people learn how to live a healthy lifestyle based on their desires.
