About Integrative Fit Wellness
Formerly known as Chi Bodywork, Integrative Fit Wellness (IFW) was created to bridge health and wellness into wholeness. By focusing on getting your body well, we can help increase your stamina prior to engaging in any form of fitness training. This helps you perform at your maximum physical ability with mental alertness, allowing you to be more effective at everything from building strength to simply moving better. With the integration of manual therapy, your body will even recover faster after workouts, and be ready for the next stage of training.
Calvin To is a Certified Massage Therapist, Myofascial & Neuromuscular Release Therapist, Fitness Trainer and Somatic Educator with his own west coast-based practice since 2002. Calvin originally started his business as Chi Bodywork focused on manual therapy, including massage and bodywork. Recognizing how valuable it was to maintain a healthy lifestyle through corrective and functional movement, Calvin decided to expand his knowledge-base in fitness training, and received an Advance Personal Trainer diploma from National Personal Training Institute (NPTI).
Calvin has experience working with high-end spas, world class health clubs and hotels, and private clients. He has also provided chair massage for both corporate and private events and now offers one-on-one bodywork and fitness training sessions at his office, private training facilities, and clients' homes throughout the Los Angeles area.
Calvin is state licensed through the California Massage Therapy Council, a member of Associated Bodywork and Professional Massage, AED/CPR Certified. He is also an avid outdoorsman, marathoner, and volunteer. He holds a BA in Filmmaking from Columbia College, Hollywood, and is a decorated Gulf War veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
What differentiates us
Calvin realized during his time as a sports massage therapist that receiving a treatment is passive -- it does not work to correct the root problem or correct movement patterns that cause problems.
Calvin believes that to attain sustainable, long-lasting health, we need to engage our joints and muscles with the right movements to strengthen and develop endurance. When we don't move enough our systems slow down, letting the stresses of our daily lives accumulate. Stored stress and tension leads to decreased physical ability and increased discomfort. Eventually, this lowers our energy and makes us prone to injury.
Calvin is a firm believer in the importance of the mind-body connection. His signature style was developed to meet the physical, mental, and emotional needs of each client. He melds Eastern and Western styles, like Swedish, Sports, and Deep Tissue Massage; Esalen, Lomi Lomi, stretching, and Neuromuscular Therapy -- often using all of them during a single session, depending on the client's needs.
How we were trained
Calvin is a highly trained, advanced bodyworker in Los Angeles. He has over 2000 hours of training and extensive experience studying various forms of massage therapy. He holds certifications from a number of prestigious organizations, including the Esalen Institute, the Upledger Institute, the National Holistic Institute, among others. He continues to advance his knowledge and training through numerous seminars and workshops every year.
Calvin also holds an Advanced Personal Trainer diploma, for completing 500 hours with the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI).
Why we love what we do
Calvin is fascinated with the human body and its movement. He loves to share what he knows with his clients, teaching them how to attain and maintain optimal health. While regular massage/bodywork/fitness is a good start on the road to health, optimal health is ultimately reliant on an individual's capacity to continue to take care of their own body long after a session is over.
