About Ian Chin Photography
15 years ago, Papa presented me with one of his spare cameras to play with. Eventually, I learned that photography was much more than simply pointing and clicking. Starting out with a Pentax Honeywell film camera, I learned what proper exposure and composition were through many many discarded photos. Even as I inevitably created garbage, Papa would always encourage me by picking up my photos at the store or buying me more film and better equipment. All those years I didn't want to just throw myself out there as a "photographer" until I was sure I knew what I was doing. Photographing family and friends' events, working as a nightclub photographer, and getting the right gear have all been necessities along the way. A wonderful support system pushed me to better myself in it.
Why we love what we do
Using my previous experiences, one day I just threw myself out there and posted an ad selling my services as a photographer. I figured I had read enough, made enough mistakes, and learned from those mistakes enough to understand what a camera can do, and understand my capabilities using it. Within 4 days of posting my first ad in November 2009 I got my first gig...and the rest, as they say, is history!!!
Now, I can proudly say I am a San Francisco Bay Area professional photographer!
Super corny I know, but I can honestly say that because I get to do what I love, I really don't consider anything I do work. I am fortunate to have found my passion, and I hope I am able to share that passion with you.
