About Yoga Illumined Studio
Yoga Illumined Studio hosts a variety of Yoga Illumined styles of practice suitable for the bodies, hearts and minds of all: from new beginners to the most advanced practitioners. Yoga Illumined teaches the 8-limb system of Yoga as described by the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Classes range from athletic Hatha and Vinyasa classes to soothing and therapeutic breath-work, healing and restorative asana classes.
What differentiates us
No matter what stage of life you are in, no matter how old or young you are, no matter your physical ability, Yoga Illumined has an offering that will suit you - one-on-one or in a group class.
How we were trained
Our training is from the source - our parent Yoga schools / Ashrams are Yoga Society of New York, Ananda Ashram and Yoga Society of San Francisco, Brahmananda Ashram. We honor all schools of Hatha Yoga and source our teachings from Krishnamacharya's students: B.K.S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois. Our principles of anatomical and bio-mechanical alignment are sourced from the Anusara tradition. And we believe in studying Yoga from the standpoint of its original texts in Sanskrit and Devanagari. But if these are too complex, we believe that Yoga speaks to you from the Silence of the Heart. And we guide you in this direction, always.
Why we love what we do
We believe that everyone is whole, perfect, supreme and filled with bliss. We believe everyone is a Yogi. Yoga Illumined’s mission is to bring the sciences and practices of Yoga into everyday life so that everyone can remember who we all really are: love and light itself. The word “Yoga” means to “Yoke.” Our classes and offerings aim to help you bridge or yoke all aspects of life – mind – body -spirit / work-play-rest / public – private – social so that you can live life to the fullest, lessening inconsistency across the multi-dimensions we all function in everyday. It is not unusual for you to chant in Sanskrit – the original language of Yoga – in many of our classes. We believe in building community and bringing the 3 great paths of Yoga into reality for everyone: Bhakti – Devotion and Love; Karma – Giving back to the community; and Jnana – the path of Wisdom and Knowledge.
