Make eyes your ally: our guide to perfect eyelashes

When talking about different types of eyelash extensions, it’s important to understand that the main difference is the material the extensions are made from. The four most commonly used eyelash extensions are made of acryl, silk, Siberian mink, or human hair, and each his its pros and cons.

What should I know about different types of lash extensions?

  1. 1. Acrylic eyelash extensions are the heaviest and sturdiest, and make for the most dramatic look. You don’t need to use mascara if you have them, and they last up to a month.

  2. 2. Silk extensions aren’t actually made out of natural silk. The synthetic silk used for this type of extensions is light and a lot softer than acrylic lashes, but you still won’t need mascara with silk extensions. They can last longer than acrylic lashes as well: up to a month-and-a-half.

  3. 3. Siberian mink extensions give you the most natural look. They are light and they stick to your natural eyelashes better than acrylic or silk extensions. They also last longer – up to two months – but you need to wear mascara with them.

  4. 4. Human hair eyelash extensions are the lightest and the longest lasting (up to two-and-a-half months). However, they won’t change your appearance drastically, and are best used for people who have light or thin natural eyelashes to make them stand out better.

Eyelash extensions are done several different ways: by gluing the extensions to each eyelash individually, by gluing clusters of eyelashes on, or by applying a strip of eyelash extensions.

So how do I choose the right eyelashes for me?

When choosing the best eyelash extension type for you, you should consider the look you’re going for, how much time you want to spend in the salon, how often you need to maintain them, and, of course, the price. For the most natural look, you should choose mink extensions. Mink extensions are more expensive than acrylic or silk but not as expensive as human hair eyelash extensions.

For the most dramatic and noticeable results, acrylic lashes are your best bet. But if you only have minutes to do your lashes, you can apply strip extensions (which is also the cheapest way to get lash extensions). Unlike human hair extensions, though, strips might only last a week or two at the most even with the best glue. For the most natural and longest lasting results, you’ll want to go with human hair extensions.
